Here are some things to consider.
Hovis is Horace. He died in 24 Nov 1950.
When Horace was baptised as an adult in 1950 at ST JOSEPH'S CATHOLIC CHURCH in York. It is recorded that his father was Horace which I don't believe, and his mother was Anna Laird. There is some confusion about Laird but the first 2 lettes are definitly L and A. In 1918 when Horace married Mary Peddicord he says his father is George and his mother is Annie Laird. In 1900 Annie says she was born Mar 1836. In 1898 Harry and Horace are living in Slab, a small hamlet in Lower Chanceford Twp.. The 1880 census has Harry and Hovis with Nancy Dawson in the home of Edmon Roades. Later he is Edward E and she is Leah Jane. She died 1896 and he died 4 Dec 1904.
On Harry's marriage licence he says his mother is Anna Dawson and no father is listed. He married Flora 16 Dec 1890 in Sunnyburn, a small town in Lower Chanceford Twp.
In 1860 Samuel Rhode of Paradise is Samuel Roth/Rath of Jackson Twp and Nancy is 19.
In Anna Dawson's obit in 1919 she is the wife of George and list children Harry, Horace and Catherine.
I am Harry Dawson. Harry James Dawson was my great grandfather. I have been researching our family tree for the last 20 years and have always been puzzled by this "dead end", specially since the written history left to me indicates that his father was George, who was apparently killed in the civil war before he was born. I would appreciate hearing if you ever were able to resolve his heritage and about any future family reunions.
All the Best,
Harry, Please contact me by email...firstname.lastname@example.org
Haven't had much luck w/ the research would like to exchange what we have. I can give you info on last reunion & I'll check to see if another is being planned. This is the Copenheaver reunion, but family history is discussed.
Thanks for your reply,
Ronda Heilman Copenheaver
p.s. curious to hear what area you live in now
