I am researching parents and siblings for my gg-grandfather Nathan Purse BLISS. PURSE (PIERCE/PURCE) is an unusual name, it could have been his mothers maiden name. He was born in 1812 in Chautauqua, Cattaraugus, or Genesee County. He had two obituaries when he died one said Chautauqua County, the other said Cattaraugus County. His Civil War records say Genesee County. Real confusing. He moved to LaPorte County, Indiana about 1829. I do not find him until 16 April 1843 when he married Aberillah HAINES. He lived in LaPorte County, Indiana, Benton County, Iowa, where he served in the Civil War with the 37th Regiment A Company of the Iowa Volunteers (Graybeards). He died 6 December 1886 at Antelope County, Nebraska.

A relative of mine - a Mallory - married Lorenzo BLISS in Chautauqua Co. back in the 1830s or so. In researching the Mallorys, I came across a fairly extensive Bliss family genealogy, including Lorenzo, at either the DAR Library in D. C. or the National Genealogical Society in Arlington, VA. (don't remember which). If you cannot locate this book, let me know and I will look for Nathan Purse Bliss the next time I am at those libraries.
