He's my ancestor. This is an old post, if you're still around I'll dig up the info I have on him.

Frederick's parents were Richard Vant (1791-1861) and Dorcas Darters (1788-1860). They are mentioned in another reply in this Vant message board.

The following wasn't entered by me but appears to be accurate:
http://worldconnect.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op...

Frederick and his family lived in Mt. Pleasant, Volney NY, moved to the Chicago area and later some of them returned to Volney.

Frederick (Sep 1823-Apr 12, 1902) met a rather unfortunate end. His horses were spooked at a railroad crossing by a train and ran in front of it, pulling the cart with Mr. Vant in the path of the train. I have the newspaper story.

Thank you for the reference web connection.
I would be interested in a copy of the news article and reference newspaper/date if you could.
James I Vant is the relative connected to the family.

You (or the person you are researching for) must be my second cousin +/- some removes, as James I. Vant is my g-grandfather.

One newspaper story is here: http://tinyurl.com/393trw7
Fulton Patriot, Apr 16, 1902, second column. This is a largish .PDF file.

Do you know anything about the ancestry of Jonathan Root? He was the grandfather of Lucretia Root, James Vant's wife.

He was the son of Richard VANT (b 1791 Westwell) and Dorcas WARTERS(b 1788). Richard was the son of John VANT (b 1751 in Charing / d 1797 in Westwell) and Elizabeth ELDRIDGE (b 1749 in Hadlow, kent). John was my 6th great grandfather. Hope this helps.

I have seen both spellings but do not have a certificate to prove which one is correct.
