Looking for information on John Marion Childers and Irena Adams. Married in Jasper Co. on April 4, 1850. Marion was born in Georgia on January 8, 1827. Died March 27, 1897. Buried in Hancock Cemetery, Jasper Co. Irena was also born in Georgia about 1833. She died in 1913 and is buried along side of her husband in Hancock Cemetery.

Their children were: Robert Childers, born Feb 5 1851; Abel Childers, about 1853; William H. Childers, March, 1855; John Thomas Childers, July, 1856; Sarah Childers, January 7, 1860; Adam Childers, about 1861; Moses Patton Childers, March 2, 1865; David M. Childers, June, 1866; Reden Childers, about 1869; Rosie A. Childers, about 1871; Kate Childers, about 1876.

Marion's mother's name may have been Permelia. They were in Jasper County as early as 1850.

Your Irene Adams may have been a sister to Faben, Able, and Bullard Adams. They moved to Jasper County with several siblings in the 1850's from Thomas County, Georgia.

Adams Connection - Jasper Co., TX

Dear Gary:

I am confident that your guess is correct. Irene Adams was the wife of Marion Childers, who also came from Thomas Co., Georgia. In the 1850 Federal Census for Jasper Co., TX, his primary occupation was listed as being a lumberman.

thomas Co. GA is a very wooded area. Some of my existing wood vendors are still headquartered there because of the supply of wood there.

I also found a number of listings for possible Adams connections on my recent trip to Texas although I was unable to include a trip over to Jasper Co. That will have to wait until 1999. In any event, I found Abel Adams listed any number of times.

Please advise if you have any more information on this particular line.

All the best,

Lars Kristiansen

I do not have any info on the descendants of this family but I do know that the Adams family moved from Thomas County, Georgia to Jasper County, Texas in the 1850's. Faben, Able, and Bullard Adams were three male siblings and other siblings and possible in-laws made the trip. Thomas Adams was their father and he remained in Georgia and died several years later. Unknown why they left and came to Texas with father still living. He was a wealthy man. I would like to know the story. Thomas' father was Colsen Adams from Pitt County, North Carolina. He died in Alabama. I have not been able to trace the family any farther. I am a descendant of Faben Adams.

You were the catalyst for a major breakthrough for me.

I have discovered that Irene Adams was the daughter of Abel Adams, born March 3, 1808 in Thomas Co., GA. He died in Jasper County, TX and is buried there. He and his brothers, Fabian and Bullard (or is it Ballard), moved to Jasper Co. TX at about the same time as my Childers relatives who were also from Thomas Co.

Abel, Fabian and Bullard's mother was Catherine Parramore, born about 1785, died June 19, 1855 in Thomas Co., GA. She married Thomas Adams, son of Colson Adams and Rachel Cason. Catherine's place of birth was the Adams Plantation in Thomas Co., GA.

Abel evidently married one of his Parramore cousins, Elizabeth Ann Paramore, born February 22, 1830, the daughter of John Parramore and Nancy Brinson.

It was interesting for me to discover that the descendants of J. Marion Childers and Irene Adams all had names (either their first or middle names) which appeared with great frequency in the Parramore and Adams lines, e.g., Reden or Reddin, Blewett, Abel, Adam, Patton or Payton, and Noah.

Keep in touch and we can share information.

Adams and Brown Families

I'm a grandson of Jessie Brown Peavy, wife of Leroy Frank Peavy. Jessie was the widow of Olin C. Curry who died barely a year after their marriage in 1905. Jessie Brown was a daughter of Sarah Ladusky "Sally" Adams Brown and Enoch Welburn Brown.

Enoch Welburn Brown was originally from Tennessee and probably arrived in Jasper sometime around 1855-1860. He enlisted in Company E, 1st Legion of Texas Cavalry, CSA on 1 Jan 1862 and was wounded at the Battle of Iuka, Mo. on 19 Sept 1862. He was captured, paroled, convalesced, and re-joined his unit and was present at the surrender of the regiment on 4 May 1865 at Citronelle, Ala. I've been unable to trace him back to his origins. There's a hint that he might have brought a slave with him when he came to Texas but that's purely guesswork.

Sarah Ladusky Adams had a sister, Susan L. "Babe" Adams Stone, and brothers Redin Fabin "Red" Adams and Abel "Abe" Adams. They were all children of Abel Adams and Betsy Ann Parramore Adams, both born in Georgia.

I know that Jessie had sisters Alice Brown (Mrs. Alfred) Debney and Elizabeth Jane "Bessie" Brown (Mrs. Ernest C.) Bodkin. She also had brothers, Charles Carroll Brown, William O. Brown, and "Sam" Brown but "Sam" isn't documented as far as I am aware. There was folklore that mentioned an "Aught" or "Ought" and this might possibly have been William O. but I'm not informed on this score.

If anyone has information about E. W. Brown or the origins of the Adams' or Parramores, I'd be grateful to hear of it.

Thanks in advance,
