I'm Paul Ohmer III.

My father is P. Ohmer Jr., and I'm a descendant of the "Earl" line. I visited the old house on Creighton Ave numerous times when I was quite young to visit my Aunts. I heard that the house was converted to a museum. Is this true? Is it still there?

I also ran into a clerk in a store here in Boston where I now live, and when I gave him my last name he said ,"Oh, are you related to the Ohmer's from Ohio who manufactured the taxi-cab fare equipment until it was bought out by National Cash Register?"

Not having heard anything about this enterprise until this moment, naturally I said: "Yeah, you bet!"

We had a nice conversation about how small the world is, etc.

Anyway, I was born in Gary, Indiana to Paul P. and Anne M. Ohmer. We moved to Palatine, ILL (Outside Chicago) then to Pittsburgh, PA to follow my Dad's career.

After a year at the University of Pittsburgh, I moved to Texas in 1979 and began a 20 year career in the steel industry. (Naturally following in Dad's footsteps.)

I now work as a master carpenter and cabinetmaker in the Boston area.

Well, that's enough about me for now, but I'm VERY interested in finding more regarding the Ohmer geneology.

I must say that my immediate family wasn't very open about family details, except stories about the Alaska branch. (Actually I only heard stories about Earl)

Hoping all Ohmer's are well, and have kind hearts,

I'd love to hear from some of you.

Paul (If you're in Boston, its "Paulie")

Paul-- Read your query on Joels website. I'm 1 of the "alaska" ohmers. Earl was my grandfather. I,ve had the pleasure of meeting Joel and part of his family and look fwd to spending more time with them. At the moment I'm living in Morgan City LA. but expect to go back home (alaska) in Feb. 04 when my job here wraps up. Lance

Hi Paul,

Thanks for your question. If you are a descendent of Earl (b. Dayton ca. 1885.) then his father was Nicholas, (Ohmer Park) my great grandfather's brother. My cousin John and Milly Ohmer Hubler of Dayton has done a nice genealogy booklet re the Dayton Ohmers.

Ohmer Fare Register Company, Dayton, was my grandfather's (John Francis Ohmer) company, and where my father (John Francis Ohmer Jr.) worked as west coast sales manager til WWII, when the company was sold to Rockwell Mfg. of Pittsburgh. (Now Boeing). NCR had nothing to do with Ohmer Fare.

I have lots of info but unable to post it right now. Have pics of Earl.
Warm regards,

Tom Ohmer

My great grandfather William Jesse Kuhns worked at and was the Treasurer at Ohmer Fare for some 40 years. I'd love to get any information that you have on the company.
