I have been desperately
trying to find information out about a Hannah Merkley, Marcley, Murkley
(There is no positive spelling on her name that I can find). She married
a George Raverty in about 1848. This is my great\grandma and
great-grandfather on my mothers side. I know they migrated from Leeds
County's Canada in 1856 or 1857 and settled in Jessenland
Township,Sibley County, Minnesota. Eventually ending up near Sleepy Eye,
Brown County, Minnesota. My mom has their old family bible. They had
their first four children in Canada and the rest were all born in
Minnesota. I have been looking for positive verification of her maiden
name. On her death certificate filled out by my grandfather her name is
spelled Murkley. On her son Patrick's death record it is spelled
Merkley! There is possibly a lengthy family tree for her family on
Family Tree Maker but there her name is spelled Marcley, as you can see
this is why I am writing. I could not trace back and see who
filled out the FTW tree to ask where they got the info on George
Hannah but I think it is my grandparents. If anyone can help at all I would
greatly appreciate it.

To Pam McColley:
I have some info on the above people that was forwarded to me by the
wife of a descendant. They live in or near Sleepy Eye MN. I am also interested in any info you may have, particularly
the family bible notes you say your mother now has. My grandfather was Daniel Merkley
of Leeds Co., brother to Hannah. their parents were Martin Marcley Margaret

Her birthdate that I have is November 25, 1828, I'm not sure where she was born. Possibly in the Eastern States. She is possibly listed on World Family Tree Volume 1; Tree #3387. She was married to George Raverty which is my line. A D.Brodie from Canada contacted me and stated that Hannah had a brother Daniel Merkley. His Grandfather. Her parents could very possibly have been Martin Marcley Margaret Lasher, but I have no positive proof. I only have the old family bible of Hannah George. Neither of their parents were listed in this bible only their children. Also there is a different date listed as her birth date and death date on her tombstone versus what is listed on her death certificate at the Brown County Courthouse. My Great-Grandmother Hannah is definately buried at Sleepy Eye, MN. catholic cemetery. I have pictures of their grave. If you know any thing about these two I would appreciate any thing you have or know of a marriage certificate would also be super. Thanks.

If you think that this couple was catholic borrow the Latter Day Saint's films that list Jessenland in the title. Most of the information is in Latin, but the names are recognizable. The mother's maiden name is given in most baptisms.
