Looking for information on William C Young born 14th September 1895 mother Kathrine. There are 3 william youngs born around this time and without info on the right one especially the name of his father we can not get any further back. On his army records he says his father is dead by 1919 and we only have the name of his mother Kathrine
Any help or suggestions would be great as we live in England

Tell us more about him... do you know where he and his mother lived? Did he have siblings? Did he marry? To whom, and where? Where and when did he die? Those things may help us to help you a little more effectively.

We know quite a lot about him except the most important thing who his father was.
William was born in 1895 and enlisted in the Army at Jefferson Barracks, St Louis in 1916, before the US entered WW1. He served on the Mexican border during the Mexican Punitive expedition and was sent to France on the 31st October 1917 in Company H, 18th Infantry Regiment, Ist Infantry Division of the American Expeditionary Force. William was wounded and then gassed with Yperite, which seems to be a combination of mustard gas and Chlorine, on 4th May 1918 near Cantigny on the Soissons front. He was blinded temporarily, and his lungs were damaged. He developed pneumonia and later tuberculosis. He was repatriated, embarking from Bordeaux on 6th January 1919, to Hoboken, New Jersey. He was hospitalised on arrival at Camp Merritt, New Jersey with influenza and bronchitis. He went back to Jefferson Barracks hospital on 16th March 1919, and his bronchitis cleared up. He was then sent to Denver Military hospital on 17th April for treatment for tuberculosis. His heart was enlarged and his lungs badly scarred. William was discharged from the Army on 11th August 1919, assessed as 35% disabled. He was awarded the Purple Heart and the Siver Star. His personnel record confirms his father was deceased by 1919, cause of death appendicitis, but does not give a name. His mother, Mrs Katherine Young was alive in 1918, as were 2 sisters and 2 brothers not named. 3 sisters had died in infancy.
He was married to Myrtle Obrist on 1st March 1924 by the justice in the 4th district St Louis as we have a copy of the marriage license. He then had children of his own.

William died in 1953 and is buried in the military cemetery at Jefferson Barracks.

Thank you for the time you have taken to search out this information. The tree you have mentioned belongs to my cousin, However Wiliam states in his military records that his father is dead by 1919 and Charles P (married to Katherine L)is very much alive. William also says his father was born in Missouri and Charles P was born in Indiana As you say Charles E (William C's son)says that William's father was John not Charles So we feel this is not the right family. Charles E could have got mixed up with his grandfathers as his other grandfather father of Myrtle was called John.
When Kathrine writes to the military asking about her son she does not write Mr & Mrs implying that she is indeed on her own and may be a widow.

We have the information you have found however we do not have an obituary as we have presumed that William would have not had one. William C's father remains elusive and with out this we can not get any further back.

Will see if I can get over to the library and check to see if there is an obit for William.. it won't say much, but if it gives us any names at all, that'll help, especially if it names his siblings.

It may take a few days, so bear with me :)
