Am searching for information on a family that appears on the 1880 Census in Warsaw, Goodhue.

Gjertrud, age 30 with children Anne age 10; Bert 8; Christ 6, Torger 4; Marit 6/12 months.

Gjertrud is shown as married but no husband is listed and I am trying to find him or the family after 1880. Torger is my uncle by marriage to my Aunt Anna (Elton) Soine. Torger is living in Wang, Renville, MN in 1900 and then living married to Anna in New Rockford, ND.

Could anyone help me with the name of Gjertrud's husband and his whereabouts (Torger's father) or where the family might be after 1880?

Gjertrude is actually Gertrude (Gjertrud) Torgersdtr Eltun. wife of Ole Soine, the Torger listed in the 1880 census is the one you have been looking for.

I'm not sure where Ole was at the time of the census. I know he was no longer in the army calvary (Civil War).

You need to contact Shirley Brekke Manning who is the child Anne Soine's daughter. She lives in Fargo ND, and would be thrilled to talk with you. She has researched her great grandfather Ole extensively.

Her address is 1219 - 11th St., Fargo ND, 58103. Tell her I sent you her way.

According to my records, Ole Soine (1844-1924) and his wife Gertrude Eltun (about 1850-1885) had at least 8 children. About a year after Gertrude died, Ole married Sigrid Loe. They had two children and lived in Wang Township, Renville County. They are probably buried at Wangs Church in Maynard.

Northfield News March 21, 1924:
Dennison - Mr. and Mrs. T. L. Soine left Monday morning for Maynard to attend the funeral of Ole Soine who died at his home there last week. The deceased was a resident of Warsaw township many years ago, and was an uncle of T. L. Soine. [I believe T. L. Soine = Thomas Larson Soine, married to Anna Ellestad]
