Can anyone tell me if alternate names submitted are indexed and, if so, how long does the alternate name to appear in the index?

Alternate names submitted are indexed but there seems to be no set schedule for the indexing to be done.

Depends on how you define "blue moon".

See:

See:
www.moongiant.com/Blue_Moon_Calendar.php

Even with that I'm not sure if it will help when it comes to Ancestry's updating schedule!

When I submit alternates and corrections, I usually get an email notification that they have been added to the index about three or four weeks later.

I have not received a "Thank you for contributing" email in months. I submitted dozens for the 1940 census, and not one has been acknowledged.

I got an email yesterday. It contained changes I had made over the last several months.

I rarely make corrections anymore since a ton of corrections I made over the last 6 years are gone now. Apparently one, or several, of Ancestry's "updates" wiped them out.

I recently received 2 emails with dozens of people that I had submitted for corrections in multiple census years. Those are the first responses I have gotten in about 6 months.
