The Zins family from St. Mary's, Indiana, originated in Grosrederching, France, near the German boarder. The Minnesota Zins family are from Kyllburg, Germany. I suspect that these two families are connected, but I have not been able to prove this.

(I realize this post was made many years ago, but figured I'd post anyway!)

My ggg-grandfather was Jacob Zins, b. 1821 in the Lorraine area of what was then Germany, according to family sources. He married Elizabeth Zellar (no b/d dates) in 1846 in Jo Daviess Co, IL. They had five children: Celestina (my gg-grandmother), Theodore, George, Emil, and Philomena.

Unfortunately I don't know anymore going back in time, but would love to hear if anyone has any more information on the family!

Dr. Albert J. Zinns' (and his wife's) death notices and/or obituary are published in Milwaukee's German language press. They are indexed in "Milwaukee's German Newspapers; an index of death notices and related items" (1844-1950). These newspapers and the index remain in libraries, and not online. In the case of a local MD like Dr. Zinns, it would be important to check for BOTH a death notice and a death notice in the local English language papers.
