My maiden name is Ogburn. I was born 3-20-31 to Stephen A Ogburn and Louise Foell in North Dakota. I am told that my grandfather was Oliver Lacy Ogburn, born in Dunlap, Illinois 6-28-1878. I also have a half brother named Steve Ogburn who is 2-3 years older than myself.

My grandfather, Ray Ogburn was born in
Kenmare, ND in 1905. He was the 2nd of about
10 kids. His father, Amos Charles moved there
from MO,, and before that Pine Village, IN.

Might be a relative?

Karen: thanks so much for the reply. I was born and raised in North Dakota and was unaware of any other Ogburns in the state. I have traced my grandparents to Kewanee, Illinois. Most everyone has died by now. I am 69 years old. My father, Stephen Augustus Ogburn, died in 1931, when I was 3 months old. His father's name was Oliver Lacy Ogburn...but I don't know where Oliver was born. I am interested in finding out when the Ogburns came to the US from...wherever. I was told that Oliver Ogburn was Scotch/Irish. Please keep in touch with me and tell me about yourself and your family.

Sincerely, Donna Miller

Hi Donna, i am Cynthia. My father is william ogburn, originally from Camden, SC. i, too, am very interested in finding more info on my family. From what i was told, the Ogburns are from Wales, that they where given 19 slaves to come to america. i believe they settled in Virgina, then came to North Carolina and South Carolina. please e-mail me, perhaps you and i could share more information. i hope to hear from you soon, take care Cynthia

So good to hear from you, Cynthia. I really don't have much 'history' but I will give you what I have. My dad was Stephen Augustus Ogburn from Kewanee, Illinois. I presume tht he was born there but I'm not sure. He died in 1931 in Hazelton, North Dakota by his own hand. His father was Oliver Lacy Ogburn, born in Dunlap, Illinois on 6-28-1878 and he died 9-12-1944.His mother was Lewiea eleanore Rynearson, born 2-28-1999 in Elmwood, Illliknois and died 12-31-1961. My grandparents were married 7-13-1904 in Toulon, Illinois. I presume my information about my grandparents is correct, it was handed down to me by my uncle Thomas Ogburn from Kewanee, Illilnois. In 1979 I drove to Kewanee, to research my roots. While there I bought a headstone for my dad's grave and visited with 3 remaining children. I also found out that I had an uncle, Warren Ogburn, in San Antonio, Texas. I must tell you that I have not had time to really do a thorough job with tracing my roots but now that I have retired I plan to devote more time to this very interesting task. Let me hear from you. Sincerely, Donna

Hi Cynthia: I have been able to only trace back to my grandfather "James Charles OGBURN." He came from the Red Bay, AL, area in the late 1800,s to East Texas. My father was born in 1899 in Point, TX. My grandfather was married to a Minnie Fowler. My research leads me to believe that my great grandparents on the OGBURN side probably came from the Carolinas.

Dear Donna,
I think you are my father's half-sister: doesn't that make you my aunt?
If you are still out there, please get in touch. I would love to tell you about him...
