Hi Folks. I am brand new at this geneology search, so please forgive me for not having any pertinent info to add. I just wanted to make a connection and let you all know that I am out here. I am John Peter Lieske, born in Queens, NY, in 1957. I have a sister, Jill Arden Lieske (married to Van Etten), also born in Queens, NY, in 1956. Our biological father is John Joseph Lieske, born in Brooklyn, NY, in 1929. Our father had a sister named Alice (deceased) and a brother named Harry. Both Harry and our father currently reside in Phoenix, AZ.
Sorry I can't say more, but Jill and I didn't grow up with our father so we know virtually nothing of our biological roots.
I would appreciate any help. Thank you!
Jay Lieske (but you already knew that)

Dear Jay,

I am also looking for Lieskes' in NY. My
grandmother was Anna Lieske who married William Conway in Brooklyn.
Her parents were:
Emil Lieske
Anna Beyer/Lieske
She had siblings but we only know of one sister, May.
Anna doesn't have a birth record in NY so we assume her family lived elsewhere.
Please contact me. I look forward to hearing from you.

Hi Jay,

sorry I do not have anything in particular - but LIESKE is a German name and jugded by the suffix "-ke" it originates in the area east of Berlin, called NEUMARK or GRENZMARK now Poland.

My ancestor is Carl Lieske, b ca. 1780 in the Brandenburg area.

Good luck with your search.........

Daniela, I read your listing of towns in
which the Lieske name appears. I tried various
on-line map sites, but cannot find these towns. Is
their a larger town nearby, or a parish name?
My family left the area in 1865 for the US.
Please help me with geography! You can email me directly
if you wish at
Thanks! Beverly

Hi, Müncheberg is a small town some 40 km East of Berlin/Germany. Does that help?

Thanks--I could find that town! Yeah!
There is a town in Germany named Lieske.
Does the name come from that early on?
It is near Cottbus.

Hi, I think that is hard to say. People could be named after the town or vice versa......But the ending -ke is typical for the former Neumark region, some 100 km East of Berlin. The region started East of the Oder River. Good hunting, stay in touch with any news on that subject
Try which is a Germany based forum for Brandneburg researchers.
