Your message states that Andrew Fenske's second wife was named Rosa. Do you have any information regarding who his first wife was? Do you have any info regarding names of any children?

I'm trying to find the name of my great great grandfather. My great grandfather was Hermann Fenske (b. 1856 in Posen, Prussia). His mother was Louise Lieske, but his father says "unknown." Louise married a Martin Baumgart, but Hermann always went by "Fenske." Obviously, he knew who his father was, whether he was born out of wedlock, etc. (divorce was unheard of at that time, yet not impossible)

Any info appreciated. Thank you.

From "Memorial Record of the counties of Faribault, Martin, Wantonwan and Jackson, Minnesota" by the Lewis Publishing Co., 1895: John C. Fenske was born in Prussia 1829, son of Joseph and Teresia (Hintz) Fenske. Their family was composed of four sons and three daughters. In 1851 John and his brother Andrew emigrated to America, first going to Princeton, WI and from there to Neshkoro where Andrew took a homestead claim where he lived until 1863, when he removed to Green Lake Co., WI, where he still resides [1895].

John C. Fenske married Louise Kruger April 5, 1856, daughter of John G. and Willimena (Dotzauer) Kruger. In September 1866 they moved to Faribault Co., MN. Their children were Mary, wife of William Oelke; Louise, wife of Gustavus Schneider; Albert; Sarah, wife of Rudolph Gartzke; William F.; Emma Amelia, who died in infancy; Lydia, wife of Fred G. Levenick; Lillie, wife of John F. Zupp; Eva May, wife of Paul Meyer, of Elmore; Joseph S.; and Edward J.

My greatgrandmother, Emma Bertha Fenske, immigrated to Wisconsin from Germany around 1900 with infant sons and possibly other sons. Since she caom here alone I suspect she had family here. Her sons names were Walter, Oswald and Bruno. She settled and remarried in Oconto County in Lena Township. Fenske was most likely her mainden name which she appearently kept and passed on to her male sons. I would be interested in the article you referenced and any other infomration you have on Fenskes in Wisconsin that might help find more information about these Fenskes.

Hello. As far as I can tell we are double cousins-
in-law. Martin Baumgart and Louise Lieske, his wife,
had daughters that married into your family.
Lena Baumgart married Julius August Baethke and
Emma Baumgart (b.1871) married a Fenske.Probably Edward"s son--
Edward Fenske was a few farms over from the Baumgart farm--
1876 plat map.Do you have a birth date on Edward. I did
see an Eduard Fenske on the IGI that looked promising.
Do you know the first name of the Fenske that married
a Baumgart? Email me directly at kancer@uswest.net
and we can share what we have to date! Beverly

An Andrew Fenske is my gr-gr-grandfather. The only info I have on him is that he was married to an Anna Rose Swanke (also born in Germany)and that they had 3 children: John, Minnie and Ida (who is my great grandmother). Do you think that Anna Rose could be the second wife Rosa you mentioned in your note?

I am new at "the search", but was reading postings. Gustave and Louisa Kruger Schneider were my gg parents. I had birth and death dates for John Fenske and Louise Kruger, but not a lot more history. I would love to her from you.
