Hi Heather,

I have an OAKS, Lyman F., b. 1821 Hamburg, Erie Co., NY. He was the son of OAKS, Lyman b. 1797 Worcester, Otsego Co., NY and CLARK, Eunice b. 1806 Danby, Rutland Co., VT. The elder Lyman was the son of OAKS, Samuel b. 1771 MA and SHAW, Mary "Polly" b. 1775. (Samuel and Polly also had a son named Samuel so that would tie in with the younger Lyman having an Uncle Samuel).

Now I'm also aware of an OAKS, Lyman b. Jul 23, 1807 in MA or NY. He was married to TOBEY, Nancy b. Jan 26, 1814 Addison Co., VT. He was the son of OAKS, ? and BANCROFT, Lucinda b. Nov 22, 1774 MA. I don't have further information on the ancestry of this line. And if anyone can give me a listing of OAKS, Lyman and TOBEY, Nancy's children, I'd be MOST grateful.

My G Grandmother was Nancy Caroline Oaks (or Oakes), married Merrill Jasper Cain in 1886. I have been unable to locate her parents. Is there a connection with Lyman Oaks and wife, Nancy? My G Grandmother was married in Jabez, KY, but I'm not sure where she was born or died (b. 1865, d. 1893). Thanks for any help.

All my OAKS come from Mas/NY and migrated to Michigan. I'll keep your information and will send you anything I run across.

Happy hunting,

Ed & Phyllis Fraidenburg

Hi...I know this message is old...

When you say MAS/NY

Do you mean Massapequa? ... I am working on my husbands tree and have come to a dead stop so I am working on his Grandmothers, sisters, daughter who was Mildred Oakes...her maiden name was Sweet.

If this sounds familiar please let me know

Hi. If you're still out there, do you know if anyone has ever successfully followed up on Lyman Oaks/Oakes ancestry. This is the Lyman born in 1807 & married Nancy Tobey. I am related through their daughter, Harriet Martha Oakes. I believe his mother was Lucinda Bancroft (1774 - 1871). Any help would be appreciated. Thank you. Alan

I too am researching Lyman Oaks family. His fathers name was Samuel Oaks born about 1770 and mother Lucinda Bancroft born Nov 22, 1774 both from MA. Any info you find would be appreciated and I will continue to search also!
