I have a Moran Family Bible that belonged to my gg grandparents: John and Margaret Jane Moran. John was born June 24, 1814 in Ireland. He died May 15 1872. Margaret was born April 3, 1830 and died Jan 19, 1878. The children were: William May2, 1849, Thomas July 17, 1850, John R. Nov 12, l851, Elizabeth Jan 13 1854, David Jan. 16,1856, Martha Jane (Mattie) March 21,1858, George Dec. 27, l864 and Julyet Sept 2, l867. I found this family 1850 census Greene Co. Illinois and on the l860 Greene County, Illinois census. I do not know where these people died or were buried. John J. Moran was president of the Missouri, Kansas and Texas railroad. The town of Moran, Texas was named for him in l892. I would love to know more about this family. Martha (Mattie) was my g grandmother. Please contact me if this is your Moran family. Edna Roan

Do you know where John was born? My Morans are from Roscommon, near Athlone & Westmeath, probably Dysart Chapel.

Any relatives near St. Louis???

The Moran Bible I have does not say where he was born, but I found him on the census in Illinois and he listed Ireland as his birthplace. I do not know of any family in St. Louis. It certainly seems possible. I do not know his parents or siblings' names.Thank you for your reply.

It's possible that there is a connection here. I have heard that there was one of the family members that worked on a railroad and that may have died while working on one. I know that there were at least two children, Daniel and John, I believe. I'm doing this from memory, so I could be off by the first name. Please email me at: . That will give me time to locate what I have on them. Thanks. Deborah

I found you message on the message board. My name is
Cammie Gray. This is my married name. John and Margaret are my G.G.G.
grandparents. I have been working off and on this family line for about three
years. I have also gone in other directions as I have come across
things. I would love to talk to you about what information you have and I am
willing to share what I have. Most of the living relatives still live
around the Greene County area. I live close but in the Missouri area.

My grandmother was Lena Moran Bertman (1904-1989) of Carrollton, IL (Greene County). Her father was George B. Moran (1865-?) of Rockbridge, IL (Greene County). Have those names come up in your research? I'm new to this, so I don't have much info yet. Thanks.

I am the Great Granddaughter of a David Moran who was born in Illinois in 1856. He married Emaline Lamkin in Jersey county Illinois, amd moved to Kansas between 1872 and 1880. He died in Caldwell Kansas in 1917. The family listed in this bible is the only family I have found on the illinois Census' with a son named David born in 1856. I wonder if you have any other information that will help prove these are the same people.
