Surnames: Smiddy, McPherson, Winder
If anyone can help in finding my Gt Uncle I would be thrilled - he kept changing his name and stretching the truth! He was born:
-Arthur McPherson in Melbourne on 12 June 1881
-was either adopted or brought up by Edwin and Maria Winder
-adopts the name of Arthur Winder
-Winder family move to Perth around 1900 - are taxi drivers
-Arthur returns to Melbourne and changes name back to Arthur McPherson as he marries Agnes Watts on 13 Nov 1908
-Both lie about their ages - Arthur 34 (actual, 27), Agnes 35 (actual, 46) on Marriage Cert.
-Agnes is nee Carey, sister-in-law of Arthur's mother
-From 1914 to 1924 Electoral rolls show occupation "butcher"
-1924 living at 40 Glenlyon Road, Brunswick
-November 1924 Arthur goes bankrupt
-Agnes dies on 14 December 1925
-Arthur disappears
-1928-1931 Possibly changed name to John Robert Smiddy (The real John Robert Smiddy, an electrician, had Arthur's mother, Elizabeth Carey, living with them during the 1930's, so he was associated to some extent with the Smiddy family)
-1931 Listed on rolls as John Robert Smiddy, butcher, living at 190 Victoria St, North Melbourne
-1931 to date - John Robert Smiddy, butcher, disappears from all records.
