I am descended from the Dryers through my mothers mother. I have traced my family back to William Dryer, born 1500- died 1558 in Taunton, Somerset county, England-parish of St. Mary Magdelen. I hope this helps.

The Dryer name appeared in American reocords in late 1704.
It was possible and probable that the family was once Dutch and that the name was
origianally Van Drier, although it appears only as Dryer as far back as 1500.
Other places to search would be: English branch of the continental family whose name is spelled
Van Drier in Holland, Von Dryer and Dreher in Germany, Czechoslovakia, Norway and Sweden.
William Dryer Senior, father of the first American ancestor was a locksmith and gunsmith.

I have a book on the dryers. My grandfather is Donald R. Dryer. My mom is Carol A. Dryer/Hartman.

I am searching for my 3rd ggrandfather Worden Dryers father. Worden married Zurviah Gage in Cazenovia, Madison County
in 1827. They had four children Ambrose, Willis O, William Harrison, and Mineva. They move to Delphi, Onondaga County only about 7 miles away.
Is there any info about Wordden Dryer in the Dryer book. I can not find a copy of it. Any clue welcome.
Sincerely, Anne B Dryer

My DRYERS came from the Alsace Loraine in the Black Forest region between France and Germany -- depending on who own the border at the time. I was told we are of the German descent - but not sure because of the border disputes over there at the time.
