I know of an Erastus Colf who is buried in the Bellows Corners Cemetary in Ashford, NY. He also has a daughter, Frances, buried there as well. I am descended from Erastus' brother Gehial Colf. I didn't know where the Colf's came to Ashford from, do you know the town in Monroe co.? Please e-mail me for more information. Thank you.

No I don't know what town they came from. I only know that erastus listed his place of birth as Monroe Co. Do you know who Eratus Colf's father was? I received an email from someone named Boni but could not email them back, do you know who this could be?

Boni is my aunt. We are both researching our family tree. Erastus' father was John D. Colf born in 1787 in NY and died Feb. 19, 1870 in Ashford, NY. His wife, Edna, was born about 1794, also in NY. I don't know when they left Monroe co. to settle in Ashford, but I have seen a listing of land owners in Ashford in a History of Cattaraugus county as owning land there as early as 1843. John and Edna's children, that I know of are: William W., John, Albert G., Delivan, Erastus, and Gehial. I would like to find out where the family originally came from, what nationality they were, what church they attended, etc. If you would like the dates for the above people and a complete list of the Colf's buried in the Bellows Corners cemetary (which is also called the Nagel or Colf cemetary) you can e-mail me and I would be happy to give them to you. By the way, what is your relationship to Erastus?
Thank You

Is there a connection to Erastus Colf?

Erastus Colf was like a nephew to Sarah Jane Colf. His father was John D Colf Sarah's brother. I have her and John's father as William Colf who died 13 Sep 1898 Parma, Monroe, NY, USA. married to a Cathering( unknown last name)This is a wall for me has anyone found out more on this line?

There are some Colf's listed in the 1818-1850 newspaper index
(http://www.libraryweb.org/~digitized/newsindex/1818-1850/CAD...)

However, census shows that Erastus was born in the 1820s and that his father John was born in the 1780s. It is unlikely that a father William would have fathered John in the 1780s and lived until 1898. The name could have been a German KOLFF, or an English Coulf.

The LDS-IGI has an entry, William Colf, born 30 APR 1826 in Parma, Monroe, New York. That could be the man who died in 1898. The Parma cemeteries are given on: http://mcnygenealogy.com/cem/index.htm#par
but not all of them have been transcribed. There is a William Colf in the 1810 census of Hoosick, Renssalaer County, NY.

This makes me wonder if this William would be a brother of Erastus. I also have a John D. Colf b 1824-27? And one wit date of 1787. So my question is there a John D Clof of John D Colf? With a Brother to Erastus?

You may be able to find these answers in the census reports. As you undoubtedly know, there isn't a very person name given until the 1850 census. Before then it is just the head of household and the number of males and females of whatever ages.
However, Ancestry.com shows:
John D Colf Ashford, Cattaraugus, NY, born abt 1827 in New York, in the 1850 census, and

Try checking the 1830 census of to see if there is a John Colf with 2 young sons...
You may also want to try finding the 1855 NY state census of that county - available on film thru the FHC system of libraries.
