I don't know if any of this ancestry marches your's but I'll take the chance:

Samuel Robinson was born about 1820-25, lived in Doone, parish of Clones, County Fermanagh Ireland. He married on Mar. 12, 1846 a Jane Jones (dob about 1820-25) from Tully, Parish of Clones, County of Monaghan Irelend.

They had four sons, Robert (dob 7/1/1859), Thomas, Samuel and John. Thomas and John went to Scotland to work in the mills while Samuel stayed behind in Ireland to work the farm with his father. The father Samuel also had two daughters who remained umarried. Bessie Ann and Mary Jane 9died at about 17 yoa. John also migrated to Scotland and became a police officer in Glasgow Scotland. After his wife died, Robert moved to the USA to marry his sister-in-law Elizabeth Finlay who was born 1861 in ?? Ireland, once his first wife died. It was illegal to marry your sister-in-law in Scotland.

Any Assistance would be appreciated. Richard Robinson Cranston, Rhode Island USA

I'm researching the family of Alexander Mcrae (McCrea, McCray etc.) who settled Alma Ontario (Peel or Pilkington Twp I believe). The McCraes were said to come from Monaghan County Ireland (to Montreal in 1832 or so..... to Alma in the 1840's). It seems there may be a historical connection to the ''Hanna' family. For example his spouse was 'Hanna Willamine Thompson' ..... and I have seen the name 'Hanna' popping up elsewhere in my research. ....... Does the name McCrae ring any bells ?? I'm hoping to discover the actual location in Monaghan County Ireland they came from ......thanks

Hello Heather

Actually the McCrea family's connection to the Hanna's is like this:

Margaret Hanna married Robert Scott
their daughter Elnor Scott married John Alexander Hill the son of
John Henry Hill and Margaret McCrea (from County Monaghan) later of Douro Twp, Durham Co., and Pilkington Twp, Wellington Co.

I think all these families - Hanna, Scott, Hill and McCrea had some connection either socially through the church or military membership when in Ireland.

Hi all,

I realize I’m 10 years late to the party but I’ve been researching the Scott angle. I agree, Jeff. I’d really like to get more information going back to Ireland about Robert and Margaret Hanna but I’m having difficulty with locating their marriage information. Family docs say 02 Feb 1836 in York but nothing official. Also looking for immigration information of both.
