Zander isn't an old german name, it's a last name. Zander is also a type of fish, which tastes really good. Believe me, I'm from Germany.
Take care

My Grandmother's maiden name was Zander. Her parents were from either germany or russia, still not sure. She married a Dusterhoft and resides in canada. If you want I can dig up more info.

Surnames: Zander, Saunders
Thanks for this info.
The Russia part sounds interesting.
I was told that ancestors of mine started the name then changed it to Saunders.

It is supposed to be a take off of Alexander the great.

However, I cannot document it and I can't find out how far back the name goes.
