Hi rogwyer,
It´s long ago, you tried do find out something about your ancestors in Styria. May be, meanwhile you know a lot more, if not, this may be useful:
Meanwhile all information on births, marriages an deaths in Styria (and some other Austrian provinces), You can find in the internet (see below). In a first step I tried to find out something about your ancestors in Leutschach and show you how to gon on. If You have any question, send an e-mail. Ican´t take too much time to this research, but, as You are living so far away, will help You. Ancestry is my hobby too, but I will not be able to do a complete research concering Your ancestors here in Styria (I am living in Graz). So, try it (Koren is a quite common name in this region be careful; by the way - K(o)ren, (c)hren in all slawien languages means „root“, today in southern Germany an Austria this word is still common and today used for „horseradish“.

Some distinguished Austrians with the last name Koren come to mind. One of them was the "poet of West Styria," Hanns Koren. Another Koren, not from Styria, served as Minister of Finance of Austria. If I remember right, he even became Vice Chancellor. One of his best moments came when he discussed the meaning of his last name. He said that in Slavic languages, his last name meant "root" ("Wurzel " in German), which led to "Wurzer" a dialect term meaning pressing people to fork over money, a fitting name for a Finance Minister. The third well known Koren was, I believe, a journalist in Graz.
