Dr. Fred Moffatt Sr., pastor emeritus of the First Baptist Church, Frankfort, Ky., died at the age of 72. He was born in Dundee, Scotland in 1898 and served in the First Battalion, Fourth Regiment of the Black Watch Royal Highlanders for four years of combat during WW I, the last seven months of which he was imprisoned in a German concentration camp. He was decorated four times for bravery and received a personl letter of commendation from King George V. He graduated from Carson-Newman College in Tennessee and did graduate work at Union Theological Seminary, New York, and Princeton Theological Seminary, Princeton, New Jersey in 1945. Georgetown College conferred upon him the honorary degree of Doctor of Divinity. He held other pastorates in Byington, Tenn.; Horse Cave, Ky.; Jellico, Tennessee and Lake Charles, Louisiana. He is survived by his wife, Mary Martin Moffatt, Frankfort; and three sons, Fred T. Moffatt Jr., pastor of the First Baptist Church, Shelbyville; John William Moffatt, an accountant in Lexington, and James R. Moffatt, an attorney-at-law practicing in Long Island, New York; 5 grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Joseph G. Weber, of Middleton, Wisconsin. Services at Rogers Funeral Home in Frankfort.
