Alexandru (Alexander) Socec was indeed a general in the Romanian Army in WWI. He was accused of deserting his post in 1916 just west of the Nealjov River. I think he was later found innocent. He was born August 17, 1859 in Bucharest. I do not know if that is Old or New Style. He died 31 May 1928 at the age of 69.
I have copies of parts of his diary that he kept from 1877 to 1928.
You can reply to me at firstname.lastname@example.org
if you would like a copy of what I have.
I am writing a book about Eastern Europe and Socec is part of the story.
