To Whom It May Concern,
I've read your post about the origins of the surname Turtle, and I'm very interested. I have little to no information about my family history on both my maternal and paternal sides. I have been told that my father's family is of Welsh-Irsih descent, but none of my family members seem to know of any ancestors or when our family migrated to the U.S. As for my mother who has the surname Clark, I have been told that we are Scotch and Irish but again no evidence of our ancestry or migration. The history beyond my great grandparents is more or less nonexistent. Do you have any information regarding the genealogy of Harold Turtle and his wife Emma Jane Cleary Turtle? They were my father's parents who passed away before I ever knew them. If you have any information regarding the ancestry of the Turtle family, I would be most appreciative. Thank you!
Sincerely,
Lindsay Ann Turtle

Hi there,
I am from a long line of Turtles from Belfast. My Mother and her 3 sisters are Turtles - Virginia, Juliet and Mary Lee Turtle
Their Father was Lancelot James Turtle and we have a massive American link - I am trying to find out more for you and have sent a message to the Turtle clan to see what can find out for you! Best of Luck!
Best Wishes,
Claira

To Turtles it may concern

I am one of the "massive" number of Turtle's in the US related to Claira Jackson.
Her great grandfather, Herbert Samuel Turtle and my grandfather Alfred Turtle were brothers. My Alfred came to the US as did their brother William Haydock Turtle. My family tree does not show a Ernest Lancelot turtle. However, Lancelot is a frequent name in the tree.

However, I had a chance encounter with a Kari Turtle, an airline hostess. In hopes of finding a connection Kari sent her tree which starts with a William James Turtle. born in 1899. I have found no connection to my Turtle tree. However that tree lists a Lindsey Anne Turtle born in 1983. She may be the same as the Lindsey Ann Turtle on this reply thread.

This is a far as my Turtle information goes. There do seem to be other Turtles in the US, so far of unknown relation

Hi Lindsey

My Name is John Turtle, I live in MA. I had a chance in-flight meeting with an airline hostess whose name is Kari Turtle. In an attempt to find a relation between Turtles Kari sent me her family tree. She is related to Williams James Turtle, born in 1899.

This tree lists Lindsey Anne Turtle, born in 1983.

Possibly be you. My wife is an Anne and I know the "e" is hard to get correct.

Best wishes

....

I have found a James McClatchy Turtle in USA but there is no other information.... Not sure if he is my James, but quite an unusal name.....

When Isabella Turtle nee Johnston 1888-1935 died her 3 youngest sons (Robert,James and John) were sent to a home.... This caused 2 of the elder sisters (Isobel and Sarah)to argue and not speak for years. Not sure why.

William 1914 left Ireland the day his mother died never to return.

Be great to hear from anyone who can fill in the missing gaps

Thanks

Debbie

Hi there, You got me at a good time - I was home with my mother who is a keen family archivist.
LAncelot Turtle (died 1828)of Aghagallon, Lurgan had 7 children. Mary Turtle is his daughter who married Joseph Shaw. Mary and Joseph Shaw's children were Jane Maria, Margaret, Lancelot and Sophia. Sophia married a man called Whiteside - that's all we know. We are also from the Aghagallon line of Turtles.
The first Lancelot Turtle that we have a record of - was Lancelot Thurkilld who was 1st Marquis of Hertford. The Lancelot that we have been discussing is his Grandson. Contact us if you need anything more - we'd be delighted to help.
