Charles Court Finniss, b. 1805 around Acrise(?)

I am looking for information on Charles Court Finniss possibly born in or around Acrise in 1805. We have located him in Canada in 1831 but have no information before 1831 other than his stating on a census he was born in 1805 in England. Any help on him or possibly his family would be appreciated!

Thanks,
Shanna

Yes, this appears to be the same people. Do you have any other information? Anything you have would be most helpful.

I can help with Court Finniss:
Marr (1)Ann Tunbridge 27 Oct 1746, Acrise, Kent. She died 1783, bur. Acrise.
Marr (2)Frances Knott 19 Sept 1784 St Mary the Virgin, Dover, Kent She died ??
Marr (3) Elizabeth Hoil 3 Oct 1798 St Marys Elham, Kent. She died 16 July 1833 bur. Acrise, Kent

Children of marr. 1: Ann Finniss. Marr 2: John Finniss b. 1785 Acrise (went to Mauritius - my ancestor).

Court's parents were Henry Finniss (b. 1705 Denton, Kent) & Mary Court (b1707)
I think Henry's parents were:Thomas Finneis (b. 1675 Dover) and Elizabeth Baker
I think Thomas's parents were John Fineus & Margaret Arnall who were married at St Mary, Dover on 22 December 1673.

I have found this info in the parish registers. All the places are within the same area. I have not come across a Charles Court Finniss.

(Capt)John Finniss was married twice: (1)Susana Major, 1805 in Folkestone, Kent. They had a child, Boyle Travers Finniss (b.17 August 1807 aboard the 'Wharby') - the first Prime Minister of South Australia.
Marr 2:Maria Hassard in 1821 in Mauritius. They had 3 girls.

I hope this is of some help. Good luck with your research.

Hi Sue,
I don't know how much info you have on John Finnis who went to Mauritius and India. . .but I have TONS! I thought at one time that was my line; but now I think that John is the brother of my ancestor. BUT, I did track his line wherever he went. I'm thinking my Charles Court Finniss is really Court Finniss, half-brother of John, first child of Court and Elizabeth Hoil.

If my family tree is correct then I can help with John Finniss (Mauritius - Capt. Paymaster56th Reg. - Commissioner of Police).
John and his first wife Susana Major had Eliza Major Finniss, Boyle Travis Finniss, Frances Ammelia Finniss, Caroline Suzanna Finniss and Joseph Ambrose Lawson(?)
John and his second wife Maria Hazzard had John Henry Finniss, William Ingram Finniss, Harriet Julia Finniss and Maria Suzannah Finniss

I just came across your 2003 message. I am also descended from John Finniss b.1785 and Maria Hassard.
I have got back as far as Henry b.1705, but was told that possibly Thomas Phenice and Elizabeth Baker were Henry's parents. This is from Graham Walsh, another descendant, and is also on the IGI although it is a LDS submission rather thn a transcription of a church record. It also gives Henry's burial as January 21, 1794.
Also I have a copy of the will of Maria Hassard's grandmother (also Maria). She died in London in 1847 in her eighties, and was in the 1841 census.
Which of John's marriages are you descended from?

My ancestor is Court Finniss, half brother of John through the third wife Elizabeth Hoyle. Have you ever run across information on Court Finniss or possibly a will of John?

I have no wills of any Finnis family members. There are references to various people named Finnis in Pigot's Kent Directory, but I have not looked them up.
I will let you know if I come across anything.

Dear Bruce,
Georgina Mary Finniss was my great-grandmother. Her daughter Leah Alice Wheldon married Hugh Alexander Massey. They had 3 children; Hugh Holland Massey, John Peter Massey - my father, and Leah Barbara Massey (now 92). Barbara gave me a huge tree of Wheldon/Finniss/Barclay families, not to mention many, many others and this started me off on family history in 1983.
The story goes that Georgina Mary Finniss walked into a bank in Mauritius where Hugh Alexander was a teller. As she walked out he said, "I've just met the girl I'm going to marry".

Strangely, in 1986 we moved to Wingmore in Kent which is only a mile or so from Acrise and Denton - this was before I had done much research. It's a funny old world.

On my tree I have a Bruce Ingram, mother Enid Roder, father unknown. Is this you or a connection?
By the way I have got back to John Fineus and Margaret Arnall married St Mary, Dover in 1673 and had Thomas Finneis in 1675. This is mainly supposition with dates.
