I'm researching my WELLAVISE ancestors, most of whom came from Wantage, Oxfordshire beginning with the birth of one Jonathan WELLAVISE c. 1790. I'm not certain whether this ancestor is connected to the Cirencester, Gloucestershire WILLAVIZEs but it's highly possible given the unusualness of the name.

If you check the Latter Day Saints Web site and do a search of All Resources or the online 1881 British Isles Census, you'll see many occurrences of WELLAVISE but with a variety of interesting spellings: WELLIVIZE, WELLAVESE, WELADVISE, WELADVICE, WELLOVISE, WELLAWISE, WELLAFICE, WILLADVISE, WILLIVISE.

Check the LDS Web site (but don't take this data as 100% accurate--there may be several transcription errors)

Here are a few of my WELLAVISEs, all from Wantage:

Ada Alice (1896-1989)
Albert Edward
Annie Emily
David (1859-1902)
Eva Elizabeth
Florence (1893-1983)
Frank (1891-1950)
Fredrick David (1892-1968)
James William (1889-1970)
Jesse (1851- )
Jonathan (1790 - )
William (1822-1910)

Anyway, let me know if any of my ancestors connect with yours.

Hi, Clare

Jesse WELLAVISE was the brother of my great-grandfather, David WELLAVISE, was born on 17 Jun 1859 in Wantage, Oxfordshire, England. He died on 4 Nov 1902 in Chelmsford, Essex, England. The information I have on Jesse is that he was born on 11 Jul 1851 in Wantage, Oxfordshire, England. One of Jesse's sons, William T. WELLAVISE, married Annie Maria POOLE. According to my records, she died 22 Jan 1943. They had three children: Percival, Reginald, and Winifred.

Does this info correspond with yours?
