I am interested in gathering further information on descendants of the Vobe family of Herefordshire. Please contact me.
I know there were some early Vobe people in America. Did these originate in England or did they come from a Germanic country?

I have Vobe's in Herefordshire. Anne Vobe born in 1733 married John Chamberlain. Both are from Cradley Herefordshire. Anne's father was Thomas Vobe, born 1706. Other children were Thomas Jr, John Betty and Richard.

Anne and John's daughter Mary was born in Old Swinford Worcestershire. She married Daniel Baker.

My family came over around 1900. I do not know the origin of the name.

Researching the Vobbe genealogy and wondering if your research of the Vobe is any way related to the Vobbe's of Linne, Germany. In the past the spelling was Fobbe.
Oldest member to emmigrate to the US was Heinrich Wilhelm Vobbe. Look forward to your response. Gretchen

My last Vobe is Ann Vobe married to John Chamberlain. Ann was born in 1733 in Cradley Herefordshire, so you might want to look there for where your family was before London. Do you have any family that went to New Zealand? Recently someone sent me the name of a person researching Vobe there. Ann's brother Thomas had a lot of children so you might be descended from him. He died in 1810.

We are Vobe's living in Northampton. Family oringinally from London. We have a Edward Vobe born in 1936 lives in Lincoln. His Father was Arthur Vobe from Victoria, who had two brothers named Henrey and William. Arthur had the following children; Edward, George, John, Grace and Eva. Arthur was married to Evelyn Towzer.

Please visit my website at and see the VOBE ancestry data that I have there. When you say Arthur Vobe from Victoria--are you meaning Australia? I have the 1881 British census on CD-rom and if we can get from you to that time period and we can identify your family in 1881 I can probably do something to get you tied up with mine. I know the Vobe family lived at Mathon along the Herefordshire/Worcestershire border for at least 300 years. Before that I believe they came up to that area from Gloucestershire. I have spent considerable time researching this family. One of the sons went to London early and I believe left some descendants there which may have originated most of the Vobes in London. As time went on of course there were others who left the county for London.
Hope to hear further from you--you can reach me at the email address on my website.

Hi.. I search all Mathon connections. Noticed your family is from the town of Mathon. I have sent letters to the area for information as to how the name was derived. Do you know?

I am quite certain they migrated to Mathon from Gloucestershire--they had an early connection with the Pulton family of Tewkesbury (an early family of drapers who left a mansion house there of which I saw a picture some years ago). I also noted a very early entry I believe at Oxford in Oxfordienses--the year 1444 I seem to recall.
If you are tracing all Mathon connections--see my website at I am connected with Woodyatt, Jauncey, Berrow and Wight as well as Vobe--all of which have early connections there.
