This is in reply to Suzanne Davis whose great-grandfather's name was William Henry Tootill. My branch of the Tootill family comes from Bury, Lancashire, England, and includes William Henry Tootill born 1843-4 who died in 1894 aged 50. He was a linen draper, like his father and mother, in Bury.
He married Hannah Rigby (1844-1921) and they
had five children at the time of the 1881 census (Sarah, Susannah, Thomas, Clara and Arthur) born between 1868 and 1881 and there may have more born later. WHT was a son of Thomas Tootill (1818-80) who was a son of my great-great-great grandfather John Tootill (1794-1880). Plainly Lois Tootill Martin's William H. Tootill is not my William Henry Tootill, but is your William Henry Tootill my WHT? Are we cousins?

There are very few Tootills here in England. Having searched the phone directories, I found only two, one of whom is my great aunt.
My ggrandfather was Joseph Tootill born circa 1900 in or around Wigan, Lancs. I am just starting on this line so haven't got very far. He married Louise Fallowfield from Morecambe and had two children, Eric and Muriel. Have you come across him in your research.
Tracy.

I was looking up info on my last name, Tootill. I read the message you posted on the internet, and the replies. One person wrote that Arthur Tootill was the son of William H. Tootill. An Arthur was my great-grandfather. I do not know if it is the same Tootill. If he was than I know he moved from England to Canada then to the U.S. If you would like more info contact me at netspider714@aol.com

I have a distant relative William Henry TOOTILL Christened 4/6/1843 the son of James TOOTILL and Hannah. Also, he had a sister Jane Lewis TOOTILL. I have no details of their descendants but I have a fairly detailed history of TOOTILLS mainly gleaned from gravestones at St. Lukes Church, Smedley Lane, Manchester, England. Any person with any interest in this line of the TOOTILLS is welcome to contact me for further details.
