I am descended from Herman Suckow who came to New York from Prussia in 1850. He had 8 children, some who went west to Wisconsin or there abouts. I am looking for other Suckow descendants to exchange information with.

The most famous Suckow in Iowa, probably anywhere, is Ruch Suckow, the writer, b.1892,d.1960. I would think any library would have a few of her books. Her book, "New Hope," was recently reissued by the University of Iowa Press. She was born in Hawarden, Iowa. Her father was Rev. William J. Suckow, a Congregationalist minister, and Anna Mary Kluckholn Suckow was her mother. She had a sister, Emma who married but I don't know who she married. Ruth married Ferner Nuhn who was also a writer and an aide to Henry Wallace. They later joined the Quaker church. I know of no descendents. I have always been told that Ruth is a relative of mine, but I have never been able to make the connection to the Suckows from which I am descended. They are also in Iowa. My grandmother was Laura Threresa Suckow Haase. She was born in Redfield, South Dakota, but I don't know the date. She died in Sioux Rapids, Iowa, 1955. Her father was Theodore Suckow who died in 1882 in Spirit Lake, Iowa. Theodore's brother, Nels Suckow, then married Theodore's widow and raised my grandmother. Theodore and Nels were the sons of Lars Johan Suckow and Sigrid Bore, immigrants. I'm not sure of the country of origin. I have heard Germany or Russia. I hope this helps a little.

My Great Grandfather,Fredruck Wilhelm Suckow, was born in Prussia August 12, 1845. I believe he married Maria Gesthardt ca 19845 and came to America in 1873 and lived in Wisconsin where my Grandfather Fredrick Wilhelm Erdman was born October 8, 1879.

I hope this will help us find some connections with our ancestors.
