Hello Trish,

Good luck on the Hunt for your family history. I am trying to find any information and a photo of the most famous Strite of all - Chales P. Strite whom invented the automatic popup toaster in 1919. Lived in Stillwater MN. Can't find anything. Amazing, It is just like he never existed.

Hi Trish
I'm helping my husband trace his family. His Strite grandfather moved to California in at the turn of the century and we can't trace it back much farther than that.

Although our branch spells the name "Stright", we are all related! Our immigrant ancestor was Christian Streit (or "Streydt") who was born in the German Palatinate about 1674 and came to America between 1704 (the last recorded birthdate for one of his children in Germany) and 1710 (in which year he was enumerated in a census in NJ). He was a Protestant and probably came with a group fleeing religious persecution by the French troops of Louis XIV under Turenne. He came to America from Germany by way of Holland and London. Between May and October, 1709, over 13,000 "Palatines" had come to London by way of Rotterdam. He appears as Christian "Streight" in a listing of tenants of the Ramapo Tract and as "Christian Strydt" in records of the Dutch Reformed Church of Hackensack, NJ on February 18, 1722. He had 10 known children and since there is an 8 year gap in their births between 1704 and 1712, it is assumed that he was married twice and that his first wife died after 1704. He appears in a 1710 census with a wife, Maria Ursula, which gives his age as 40 and hers as 28. Maria Ursula was the daughter of Heinrich Schmidt. To my knowledge there have been 2 books published on various Strite/Stright families. The name has also been spelled as Streit and Streight.

My great-great-grandfather had a brother who moved from PA to CA around 1900. His name was Charles P. Stright/Strite. Any connection?

Have you found anymore info on your Charles P. Strite?

I have a Charles P (various spellings) whose father was Stephen Roy an mother Isabella Palmer. I have the children but not much else on this immediate family, but can trace the paternal line back quite a ways.

I'm not sure there is a connection. G'grandpa Strite did move to California in about 1907 ... and did have a son Charles (not sure of middle initial). But Charles was born in 1897 so was only about ten at the time of the move. We don't know much about the family before then.
