Hi, My Grandfather was Clifford H. Shinaver Sr. He was born I think in Monroe 1901. His father's name was Barney, I think.
I've been told that Barney's father emigrated from Canada, I don't know what year, His name was Duff or Duffy Shinaver. There seems to be quite a few Shinavers in the Southeastern Mich.(Monroe) area. Let me know if any of this helps you out. I have more info from about 1900 to present

Hi Steve: Always good to hear from a distant cousin. 'Duff', was born as Adolph Theodore Senever-LeMarbre on 24 Jun 1838 in St. Jacques, County Montcalm, Quebec. He married Theresse Sanscrainte on 10 Nov 1859 in St. Charles Church in Newport, Monroe Co., MI. They had 4 children. Duff's father was Abraham, born 25 May 1806 and his mother was Sophronia LaMotte born 1810. They had 13 children. Abraham's parents were Pierre Leandre Chenevert-LeMarbre, born 5 Oct 1749 and Marie Marguerite Botquin-St. Andre born 29 Oct 1788. They had 11 children. I have the family genealogy back to 1655 in France. There are 3 coats of arms for the family. If you are interested, I would be happy to share any information with you. Contact me at:

I do know that all of the Shinavar's in Toledo are related. According to the census records a Susan Shinavar and her son Lewis D. moved there from Michigan, she was born in Canada.

Hi Kevin:I'm the gggrandson of Edward Shinavarre and is it possible that we might be related? He married Loraine Dusseau and their son, Edward Gidion Shinaver, was born March 1,1855 and died March 25, 1943. He married Madora Harriet Rowe. Their daughter, Leona Mildred Shinaver, is my mother. That's all I have right now and would appreciate any information you might have.

A pleasure to hear from you cousin. Indeed we are related. Please contact me at and I'll be happy to give you our family genealogy back to 1655 in France. I also have a copy of the family coat of arms. I do have Leona Mildred (26 Oct 1900)on the family database along with her sister Cleophane (21 Feb 1894) and brothers Royal (22 Oct 1896) and Theodore (12 Aug 1913). However, I don't have any information on her husband or descendants. Looking forward to hearing from you Jim.

Hi Robin: It's a fact that all Shinavers everywhere are related regardless of the spelling of the surname, and I have found at least 27 variations in spelling. I have documented genealogy which traces them all to a common ancestor from France. If you would like more information, contact me at

Hi Kevin:I was hoping you could help me out with some info on the Shinaver's. My gggrandmother was Margaret Chinevare and she married Oliver Dague/Digue/Daigle. I believe they were married around 1850. They had one daughter, Margaret, she was born 17 Feb 1853 and married Charles LaFee/Lefebvre 26 Oct 1872. They lived in Monroe County, Michigan. We can't find any information on Margaret Chinevare or her husband Oliver. Would you have a Margaret in you family genealogy? Any help would be appreciated!! Thanks!
