Hi Claire, I'm researching Seerys, too. My great grandfather was James Seery, he was born in County Westmeath, Ireland in 1843 to Patrick Seery and Catherine Daly. They came over about 1847. Patrick died on the voyage. I don't know for sure where they came into the country, but I think Catherine Seery settled in the Philadelphia area. I think she also had a son named John. James moved to Chicago. Does any of this sound familiar?

Hi Lilla,
I haven't been able to find when my Seerys
came over and so I can't connect them to
Ireland. I'm assuming that they came from
Westmeath because the name is so prominent
I have been getting email from a group of
Seery searchers. A woman named Nancy Reeb
has been forwarding info on Seery. You may
want to ask to be put on her list.
Her last email offered census info on these;
Patrick Seery Born 1848 Irel Census: Cumb

One of my ancestors, Ellen C. McDonald, was born in 1847 Philadelphia. She married A Patrick Seery who was born in Ireland, per their son's death certificate. They had at least 2 son's together, both named John ( one died as a child) who were both born in Wilmington, DE (1870 and 1876/1877). I have both of their death certs and also Ellen's from Delaware.
If this is a hit for anyone researching Seery's please let me know. I'll be more than happy to send you what I have. Plus... There's a woman named Melissa Gordon who I am in contact with who is a descendant from Patrick Ellen's 3rd child (the name escapes me).

Mary Seery

Cindy --

Your realtives, Patrick Seery Ellen McDonald, also had a daughter named Mary Seery which is the name of my great-grandmother (married to Bernard Smith, they had several daughters in NJ -- Julia and Rose among them.) Does any of this sound like it might be your Mary Seery?

I saw your message about Patrick Seery on Roots Web Board. My Great Grandfather was Natnaniel Seery who was born in Ireland in 1847 married Ann Kelly in 1870 in Phila. PA. They had several childern and some of the god-parents names included Patrick Seery in 1878, Cathern Seery in 1871 and Ann Seery in 1873.It seems that they were all related possibly siblings. Could there be any connection with your Seerys in Phila.

that's very intriguing. I don't know of a Philly connection, but I have been told by a cousin that Patrick was one of 7 brothers who came over. They were from County Westmeath, don't know a city. one story is that Patrick died on the ship, leaving Catherine with 2 young boys, James and John. I think they lived in New York for a while. Don't know what became of Catherine. Haven't been able to track down John either. Do you know any more about your Seerys?

I just found your post. I am trying to locate the "Julia" who married Patrick Seery of Jersey City. Patrick was born in Castlepollard, Westmeath, Ireland arrount 1865. He and 3 brothers emigrated to the US and were boarded with a Mary Smith on Newark Ave in Jersey City as per the 1900 census (They spelled their name "Seerey" on that document). At that time Mary was a widow with 7 daughters. Julia was born about 1885 and Rose about 1896. Patrick later married a Julia about 1905 and the had 2 children, John and Mary. My wife is John's daughter. I was wondering if Julia Smith is the Julia I was looking for.

My g-grandfather Nathaniel Seery was born in Ireland in 1847 and came to the USA, Philadelphia, in 1867. I do not know where in Ireland he came from but there was A Patrick Seery who was a godparent for one of his childern. I have the church records for this. Could there be any connection? I have been trying to tie to other Seerys in the Philly area with little success.

I don't think any of my Seerys lived in Philly. All of mine were in Chicago. Are you sure your Patrick was a Philly resident?
