I bought a small old trunk in CT recently with the name Wm.A.J.Riemann/Hoboken,NJ stenciled on the side of it. The trunk dates to the 1890's to 1920. I would like to find info on the owner. Any clues out there?

Hi, I can't be of any help, but the name Riemann is rather rare and comes from the Woquard Germany area, a small area that indicates that that anyone named Riemann is probably related. Was just cruising the Genealogy sites when I found your query. Hope you find some answers, George Riemann Jr. Wymore Nebraska

My Grandfather's name was K.Wm.Riemann the name on the trunk sounds like His Uncle from Hamburg Germany. If I find out for sure Ill let you know. I would love to here how you came across the trunk. I don't know about my family as much as I should. Wm. Was adopted by several members of a family in Germany to honor the name of the forebears. My Grandfathers father's brother was Geo.Fred.B Riemann The father of modern physics.

Thanks For your time anything you find out anything I would appreciate a ring.

I have three sons whose last name is Riemann. They know none of their father's relatives. Their grandfather apparently worked on the Lincoln Tunnel and his name is Otto Riemann. The family lived in NY. My sons father told them little of his background.

My mother-in-law is a Riemann by birth. Her father is Alphonse Riemann, born in Teutopolis, Illinois in 1903. I would love to hear from any of you who might have a connection with this family. Alphonse's parents were Henry Riemann and Elizabeth Vahling. They eventually ended up in Densmore, KS.

Hello Staci,
I am currently researching my husband's family, and he is a Riemann descendant.
There is a great user page at If you have trouble finding
it, enter the name "Tjarck Janssen" under their finder.
This site ties together the central Illinois, central Kansas,
South Dakota and Nebraska Riemann's. Hope this helps.

Finally found time to check the surnames. Our Riemanns came into New York but went on to Peoria Illinois right away, then settled in Kansas and Nebraska. We have all our family back to Woquardt Germany, a small area with w radius of 15 miles coverage so all the people from there are most likely related. Nice to meet you. Karoyln George Riemann

A few years ago we had visitors from Norton Kansas. a Lawrence Nicholas Riemann, his wife and daughter. He mentioned that his Mother or Grandmother was Elizabeth Vahling. I also have contact with a researcher in Western Ne and Ks who is familiar with these Riemann families. I can't find my copy in my file but will keep looking. Hope this leads you somewhere. I found my contact. The emailaddress is Nadene S Snyder She is the niece of Lawrence Nicholas Riemann and seems to have a lot of the family history. She states that his brothers were, George, Joe, Frank, Louis and Alf and one sister, Lena Jurgensmeier. Good Luck. K Riemann
