Hello Patricia; I was surfing this evening when I came on your post here. I have a Jacob Pietruszka and Anna Selin in Galacia, possibly the town of Otralez. These folks would be my great grandfather and grandmother. Do you have them in your tree?

Are you sure on the spelling of her brother? I am sure I am just picking at straws, but I am trying to trace my grandfather who was Andrej Pietruszka. I know that he came to the United States from Poland.Born 14March1914 and died 14June1993. If you think that there is a possible connection please reply.

I'm afraid that I don't know anything about
your Pietruszka ancestors. Contact me at

Andrzej is the Polish spelling. My grandmother's brother came to America well
before 1914 and died in Martins Ferry, OH,
in 1973. They were born in what is now
Ukraine, and I have no idea how to find
records there.

Dear pan Pietruszka; Sorry, but my relatives were from the town of Otalesz in the Podparkie region. Good luck in your search. To reply back, remove the"/6" from w6jrf.

Jack: So, is Pietruszka a Jewish name? My maternal grandfather, who is a first-generation American, is descended from a Pietruszka, but his family members were raised as Catholics.

Actually found a copy of the ship your family may have come over while searching for my friend. Katarzyna Pietruszka at site. She is listed there with date of arrival, ship name, etc. Very exciting site. Unfortunately, didn't find my friend's dad.

To Nancy R:
Thanks for the info about finding Katarzyna
Pietruszka on the Ellis Island website. I
already had that information. What I'm hoping to find is any relatives of hers who
were from the village of Oblaznica which is
now in Ukraine. Katarzyna was born there
about 1898 and came to America in 1914.
