Looking for Laura Kephart McTaggart Family from PA. Laura married Rob McTaggart. They had a 2 sons=Joe Dougal and 2 girls=Helen Thelma. I don't know who the girls married, but Joe married Evelyn. Laura was sister to my GM, Etta Mae Kephart. I'm trying to find more about my GM's family and hope some of her sister's or brother's families (children, grandchildren)etc. may have more info than I have. I just have to find the right lineage. I pulled 29 listings for McTaggarts with addresses in and around the State College, Clairton PA areas. I believe Laura and Rob McTaggart lived near Patton. I need to find their children, etc.

My GM, Etta Mae Kephart had a sister, Laura who married Rob McTaggart. They had Joe, Dougal, Helen and Thelma. Lived somewhere near Patton, Clearfield, PA. Joe married Evelyn. I'm trying to locate any of those McTaggart's who might help me with more info about my GM's family--parents were Joseph and Clarissa Davis Kephart who lived in Sanborn Madera PA. Don't know if this helps you at all. Good luck.

Kephart, Joseph also Andrew

I also have been looking for a Kephart. His name is Andrew Kephart b August 4, 1851 in Clearfield County, PA d July 03, 1923 in Waterloo, Blackhawk County, IA. I have found one Andrew, and if he the right one for me, than he is your Joseph Kephart's 2nd cousin once removed. My Andrew married Mary Matilda Dixon on August 27, 1873 in LaPorte City, IA. I have your Joseph Kephart married to Clarrisa Davis, but that is all I had on them. You supplied me with their children's names, thank you. I have quite a bit on Kepharts from PA, I would be glad to share what I have. my email is:

James McTaggart 1754

there was a request for mctaggart family history.. unfortunately it is not as easy as that.. as many may have found in looking up our clans.. we have none per sae. Mctaggart translates to son of the preist, each village clan etc had mctaggarts in them , though i have found stong links to the ross clan. in any event, finding just one mctaggart family history would be impossible.

heck i can't even find my own family past my granda.. seeing as i only ever knew him as paddy~L~ don't even have record of his real name

This may give a little info on the subject:

While doing research on my Thomas McINTYRE & Bridget NORTON at St. Peter's Catholic Church (a German Parish) in Reading, Berks Co.,
PA, I came across their marriage:

Thomas Mc ENTIGART & Brigitta NORTON
26 Nov 1848
wit: Jacob CASSIDY & Elizabeth NORTON
pg. 10

(my correction)
Thomas McINTYRE & Bridget NORTON
26 Nov 1848
wit: James CASSIDY & Elizabeth NORTON (sister)

And the birth of their first child:

b. 1849, bapt. Dec 1849
son of Thomas McINTAGGERT & Bridgitta (Bridget) NORTON
sponsors: John NORTON & Margarita (Margaret) BOYLEN
pg. 71

The children born to Thomas after this date had the surnames of McFRITZER-McINTIRE-McINTYRE & continued as McINTYRE into the next generation, in Chester, Delaware Co., PA. I assumed a German
Roman Catholic Priest was having a hard time spelling/writing McINTYRE in Latin. Well, was I wrong!!! The name was & is Mac or McENTAGGART & their name later became known as McINTYRE!! :)

I went to my books on Irish names--in "The SURNAMES of IRELAND" by MacLYSAGHT, I found Mac ENTAGGART. Ahh, so there is an Irish surname spelled similar to what I have been finding:

Mac ENTAGGART Mac an tSagairt (sagart, priest). An Ulster name with many variants, e. g. (Mac) Taggart, Attegart, etc. Even Tiger has been recorded. It is perpetuated in the place-name Ballymacataggart in Co. Fermanagh. Note: It is similar to the "Gaelic" spelling of McINTYRE --Mac an tSaoir. Interesting because the first Mac an tSaoir was the son of a Carpenter. He became a monk -- St. Ciaran. Therefore, his offspring could have been Mac ENTAGGART (son of a Priest)!

County: Fermanagh
Barony: Lurg
Parish: Derryvullan
Poor Law Union in 1857: Lowtherstown

I was told by my grandmother, Susan Mary McINTYRE, that the McINTYRE Family came from Co. Donegal.

Thank you very much for any help you can give me in finding where Thomas was born & any info on his family! He may have had siblings by the names of Margaret, John, Elizabeth & Catherine all born in Ireland.

Happy hunting, Helen (DCGS)
