Marianne, I have Mangums back to the mid 1600's in Virginia. Perhaps if you could give me your Williams birth date and the info on his parents, we could make a tie in.

I am looking for William Mangum d. 1844 that married Ann Kemp. The only info I have is that Ann was in Beaver Dam area of Granville Co. NC on the 1850 census at age 85. Their Children were Charlotte, John, Mathilda, Silas, Simpson, William b. 1798, Wilson b. 1804 ( my great great grandfather) married Elizabeth Goodwin, Peyton b. 1815 and Burrell b. 1820. There were eight Williams in Granville co. in the early 1800's. I would like to know which one was mine and if possible his parents. I appreciate any help you may share. would like an e-mail if possible. Thanks, Becky

donna, would you please e-mail me again and send me your e-mail address. I think our families are related either on the Harris side or the Wilkins side. I tried to reply but was looking under Harris message board

Mangums - VA 1600s

To Linda Wiese:

I'd be interested in what you have for the Mangums in VA. One of my descendants is Fannie Langston b. 4-26-1759. I don't have a date of death for her. She married James McElroy 4-16-1782.

I believe Fannie's parents to be John Langston (b. abt 1710 SC) and Agnes (Mary Agnes) Mangum (b. 1712 Greenville Co., SC) However, one source says that John Langston married twice, so Fannie could be the daughter from the second marriage.

I show the parents of Agnes Mangum as John Mangum and Frances Silvester Bennett.

Do you think this ties with your line?

I also have an alternative spelling for Mangum as Maugham.

Thanks much for any info you have!

Hello Mary, I have been slow in revisiting this site. It is good to see your information
as it does tie into my line. My ancestor is William Mangum, child #3 of John and Francis. I see that Ann or Agnes is child #6.
We are holding our Mangum Family Reunion next summer and are attempting to find out just where in the old country these Mangums, Maughams or Manghams emmigrated from. Do you have any clues?? I will revisit more often. Hope to hear from you. Linda H. Wiese

Would like more info on children of William.
my father is John Mangum, dob 3/4/1895. I do not know date of birth of his father. I know that his Mother was Ada, and that she later married a Wood. Also kind of sketchy info that John was adopted. If you have any info that might tie these names together would certainly be appreciated.
