I am the wife of John Karleskint whose deceased parents are John C. and Ruth Karleskint in MO. I believe most of the kin came from or are still in Kansas.

I am the granddaughter of John Karleskent (in NY the ones left behind spelled it that way). They originally came from NY and then
left for Kansas where there is an annual family reunion. Jean Georg Karleskind was the original one in America and He was married to Catherine Grosse (I hear Jean's family originally was from Luxemborg).

I can tell you in addition to the message I posted that Jean Georg studied for the priesthood and brought 5 children with him and had dark brown hair and very dark eyebrows.

I am not a descendant of the Karleskint family, however I have a strong interest in it. My gr-gr-aunt Barbara Beechwood is the daughter of Jacob Beechwood and Elizabeth Grosbeck(?) and was born in West Turin, Lewis County, NY about 1847. She married George Matthew Karleskint--they had 10 children and lived in Ft. Scott, Bourbon County, KS. I am trying to trace all of her descendants.

I just returned from a trip to St. Paul, KS, where her father and his second wife (Catherine Seelman) had a farm called Beechwood Hill. I know that Barbara and George lived and died in Ft. Scott, KS but I do not have any photos of eiter of them, nor any documents relating to their marriage or the births of their children or anyone's death record, even.

As I will be publishing a book on the Beechwoods and collateral lines, I would like any information you can provide, particularly if you are descended from Barbara Beechwood & George Karleskint.

I have seen the book by Damian Dietlin about the Karleskint family, but it provided only a couple of generations of descendants, and I only saw it on microfilm. If anyone has this book and could help me out, I'd greatly appreciate that as well.

Many thanks!!

Yes, alscasce lorraine and Kansas are popular places for Karleskints.

Jean Georg Karleskind came to America with 5 kids and black prominent eyebrows and I beleived he studied for the preisthood at one point.

My aunt May Sunderhof did a study going back to 1500s on this name, came from Luxemburg and there are mayors in some german town beiginnning with H...

We stayed in upstate NY which is where Jean Georg original settled, Lewis county, Turin or west turin, at first it was spelled carlopskent, or something like that. Then my Great grandad spelled it Karleskent, and a great many shorted it to Kent

My great grandmother Catherine Karleskent was married to George Gibbsand together they lived in Turin NY where they raised their children. George's sister Myrtle married a Saunderhaft and had a daughter named Mary Saunderhaft.
I was in the Lewis County Court House yesterday and noted that in the 1850 Census the Carleskents are listed under dwelling number 170. Their place of birth is given as France and their children's names are also listed. I believe we are searching for common ancestors. If you agree, please contact me so we can coordinate our research activities
