I am looking for information on John and Anna Karlen.
John was born in 1874 and Anna was born in 1880.
They lived in West Virginia around 1900 and later moved to Muncie, Indiana.

I believe that John or his parents were originally from Switzerland, but I have yet to make a connection.

My Greatgrandfather was Gottlieb Karlen born to David and Katherina (Kohli)Karlen on October 11, 1858. He died in Dallas, TX in 1946. His siblings and their years of birth follow: Susanna katherina/1839; Magdalen/1841; David/1843;Jacob/1845; Susanna/1846; Karolina/1847;Gottfried/1849; Friedrich/1852; Louise/1853;Mary Anna/1855; Karl/1860. Gottlieb's father, David, supposedly came to Dallas with him but the mother did not She died in Switzerland in 1894 and he died in Dallas in 1893. I have a picture (seems to be charcoal found in my great aunt's closet of a couple) I wonder if it is of Grandpa karlen's parents. Do these dates or names help anyone. Would love to hear from you.

It appears we are researching the same Gobeli line. I just found Madalena Gobeli in the 1880 census in Randolph County. Do you know her husbands name and her maiden name? Just started researching this line.

Wayne, Magdalene Karlen Gobeli was my 2nd Great Grandmother. Her maiden name was Karlen and she had several brothers who arrived with her in America in the late 1800s. Her husband Jacob Gobeli, died in Switzerland before she arrived here. She arrived in NY with several children before traveling to Helvetia, Randolph County WV. She is buried in the small German cemetery there and there is one Gobeli, (Arthur) who lives in that village today. Email me privately and I will send you my FTM file so we can exchange info. Thanks! << >> Sherri
