Have you seen this database at the Illinois State Archives? It has him listed as Charles W. Honer, but it appears to be him. I did not find any other Honce men.

Thanks,
I had not seen that data base. You're right that is the Honce I'm trying to research. He was living with a relative in Hancock county for a while.
Thanks again!

Hello, I am not related. I found a few things, but the information seems to be not quite right.

According to http://www.findagrave.com/, Charles Honce died Jan. 16, 1918, and is buried in Little Walnut Cemetery
Douglass, Butler County, Kansas, along with wife Anna M. (died Feb. 21, 1894), and also Leonard, Clarence, Walter, & Sarah. This cemetery is also known as: Cumberland Cemetery

Also, there is a small obit for a Peter B. Honce, whose death date matches Charles' headstone. The obit states that he is buried in Cumberland Cemetery, but I don't see a Peter B buried there.

According to the Illinois Marriage Index, Charles and Anna married Aug 12, 1863 in Hancock County. During the 1860 census, it looks like both Charles & Anna were living in Montebello. Charles (M), living with the Wm H Honce family, and Anna, with her parents? and siblings?

So, they may have married in Montebello. Have you tried to find a church marriage record for Charles & Anna?

There is/was a church in Montebello called Golden's Point Christian Church that is on a microfilm at the LDS, but the BMD do not start on this film until the 1930's. But it does have members from 1859.

Also, supposdely this church was originally known as Church of Jesus Christ at Mt. Zion, believed to be in Sonora Township, Hancock County.

After viewing the info for Montebello below, you might want to go back and put Sonora in the place search, and follow through with looking at the info for......

Hi,
I can't thank you enough for all your help. I have some of the information you gave me saved to my shoebox, but really needed his death date to try and find out his parents' names because at this point, I don't know how he is related to William H Honce. So obviously I can't put him on my tree. He's probably either a brother or cousin, but I can't seem to find anything prior to that 1860 census from Hancock, Ill.
Thanks again!!

Hi,
Thanks for all the information. Your right, for all the information, there's still no record of a marriage between Hendrick Honce and Elizabeth Rogers. Also no death dates. These names came from short histories of the families written in book about Hancock County. Nor can I find her family. I've not been able to find any record of John or David Honce (sons of Hendrick)on any 1850 census. Neither seem to have been in Keyport until the 1860 census.
Also there doesn't seem to be any record of Charles W Honce prior to his coming to Hancock county and being on that 1860 census. I'm going to try and get more info off his death certificate from Howard, Kansas.
Again thanks for the help. I was able to fill in some blanks.

You probably already have it, but William Honce's bio is here:

According to this, he died August 1, 1899.

If he left a will, perhaps Charles is mentioned in it.
