Otto Herman Haardt IV lives in Rosenberg, TX. Maybe he or his father know something of their family history.

You wouldn't happen to have an address for Otto Herman Haardt IV would you? Are you related to the family? Signe

I am related to a Hermann Haardt. Does anyone have additional information?

This Hermann Haardt was from the Fredericksburg area and his son lived in Dallas.

Signe - we may not be looking at the same Haardts. My great-great grandfather was Hermann August Haardt - he had a son - also Hermann - and possibly a daughter - then apparently died. My grandfather Hermann committed suicide after his wife died in childbirth. I do not know the first Hermann's father's name - so I do not know when he came from Germany or what siblings there may be. If this is the family that you are looking for - or you think there is a relation -let me know - I do know wives of the two Hermann's above.

There is also a Herman Haardt who died in Dallas in 1972 (SSI) - I assume there is a relation but do not know how.

I'm so disappointed. Still may be a connection. The Herman Haardt who died in Dallas in 1972 may be ours. Our Otto Herman Haardt died Apr. 6, 1972 but I have him in Houston.
Keep in touch with any clues you may come across. Signe

My guess is there is a relation as I believe many of the immigrants came into ports in Galveston and Houston - another problem is the Haardt name was often misspelled in old records and census (as Hart) and I think some of the Haardts started to spell their name with one a. Also I am not yet able to connect the Herman from Dallas - but my great-great grandfather was named the same and so was his son. Apparently German naming customs mean a lot of people had the same name. Also they apparently used their middle name. I will let you know if I find out more. I have only begun researching.

Signe,

I still have not found a connection but I have found some info for you - go to Texas genweb and search the surname Haardt - I found a bunch for you in Harris County while searching for me!

Otto Herman Haardt III and Rita Tunnell gave birth to Otto Herman the IV on 11-18-1949

There is also a Nita Annette Haardt b. 5-26-1952 and Charlie Newman Haardt b 2-16-1954. They quit listing parents after a certain year but if these are not the children of Herman and Rita they are probably related.

There are several deaths - divorces etc - here are just a few

Otto Herman Haardt Jr died 6 April 1972

Louise A Haardt died 22 Apr 1988

Judy Kay Haardt 18 Nov 1990

Go to Texas genweb- click on surname search - then go down the page to where you can click on county and surname - for older information (not picked up by surname general search) you have to go to the county website and look at archives, etc

Email if you need help manuvering the genweb
