I have many GALLICCHIO relatives on my family tree, and they too shortened their name by dropping a 'c'. I'm also told that an 'L' gets dropped once in a while, and in extreme cases the name is shortened to GALLO.
My GALLICCHIO relatives can be traced back to the very early 1800's to a place called AVIGLIANO, which is part of the area of POTENZA, right in the heart of BASILICATA, pretty close to the ankle bone of the boot.
I am seeking more information on Francisco Antonio Gallicchio, who married Angela Maria Delaita (not sur of the spelling). They had at least 6 children, all of them were girls. However, I have new evidence that there may have also been a boy.
Francisco Antonio Gallicchio's father is Valentino Gallicchio, but I don't know his mother's name. He has at least 2 brothers, namely Michael Gallicchio and Giovanni Gallicchio. Francisco's children are believed to be: Giovanni, Elisabetta, Angela Maria Assunda, Maria Michelina, Maria Filomena, Maria Michelina, and Rosaline. Yes there are 2 Maria Michelina's.
About half of the Gallicchio family is said to have stayed in Italy, and almost all of the ones who came to America remained in the Greater Waterbury and Greater Torrington areas of Connecticut.
