The following was published March 18, 1935, in the Tyrone Daily Herald, page 2, Tyrone, PA.

"Johnstown PA, Mar. 18 (INS) --- Andrew BOLHA, 70, after a residence of 46 years in this country, has recently applied for citizenship.

Bolha, who came to the United Stated from Austria Hungary in 1889, made his original application in 1892. Although he retained the application papers, and still has them, he neglected the matter until a few weeks ago when he re-applied for citizenship.

The father of 11 children, Bolha hopes to receive his final papers in 1937."

A copy of his Naturalization papers should give his birth place and information on his children.

The 1900 census, PA, Cambria, Gallitzen, Dist. 121, shows a Bolha family, father Joseph born 1857, son Andy, both born in Hungary.

Thanks Mary for the quick reply but unfortunately this isn't the right Bolha. My great Uncle Andy Bolha came in 1909. We can't find any relationship to this Andy. We don't know if my relative came from Olazlizka Hungary to work in the coalmines or did we have relatives here. There were both Fodor and Bolha before them but can't find no link yet. I believe my uncle only had 2 children and 1 of them died young.

Hi Cindy, I've been searching the old newspapers for your Bolha surname. The 1900 census showed an Andy Bolha in Cambria County, thought there might be a connection. It's possible this family is related to yours. I looked for Naturalization papers for "BLOHA" at, but didn't find anything I could connect to your family. There were BLOHA in Cleveland, Ohio ... any connection there?

Perhaps you could order the Naturalization papers for Andrew BOLHA mantioned in the 1935 news article. There might be something to go on in in them. His place of birth might be the same as your Bloha family.

What information did you find on your Andy Bolha in his Ellis Island records in 1909? Who was his sponsor and where did his sponsor live?

Your Andy Bolha may have had two children ... what were their names? Perhaps I can find something on them.

Working on the FODOR name is VERY HARD, there are so many! I'll post the Bolha info found in the old newspapers, maybe you can find a link.
