To Whosoever is researching the Bastedo family name. Bestedo is a variation of my family name "Besteder." John Besteder is listed in the 1810 census in NY. I believe he was born in 1774 or earlier. His wife was Mary Schuyler. E-mail for more -RCB

Did your Besteder relations eventually come to New Jersey in the 1800's? My Bastedo's are mainly from Rocky Hill, N.J. Thanks.

Although I do not have any additional information on the Bastido family I do know
of the ancestry of Henrietta Colles.
I would be very interested in learning more
about their children. brucec1480@aol.com

I am looking for any information on John Bastedo born May 15, 1750 - died 1831. His wife was Catharine Higbes (sp?) born December 22, 1755 - died 1840. Their daughter Catharine Bastedo was born November 11, 1783 and married Peter Berrien on November 29, 1799.

Hi - I have tombstone pictures of John Bastedo who died Sept 8, 1831 and other members of his family - some tombstones are hard to read - they are located in the Kingston Presbyterian Cemetery in Kingston, N.J. If you would like e-mail copies of these tombstones, I would be happy to send them to you. My e-mail address is emtsc@worldnet.att.net. Eileen

Hi Eileen,
I found your message re: Bastedo and Kingston, NJ I am trying to locate relatives of
Elwood and Abigail Bastedo. Abigail was a Soden before marriage. Soden is the line I'm researching. Abigail B. 1831 D. 1910 any information would be great. I do know they had two children, James W. and Mary Jane.
Thanks for your time. Kathleen

Hi Kathleen - I found a tombstone in the Kingston Presbyterian Church Cemetery for an ABIGAIL BASTEDO - written on the tombstone is "daughter of William (unable to read), died Oct. 8, 1831, aged 22 years 9 mos 5 days.
Thought it coincidental that your Abigail was born in 1831 and the one above died in 1831.
