More information on I believe our shared Bond family heritage. My 4 great grandfather was married first to Penelope Rascoe Leggett, daughter of Nazareth Leggett and I believe Mary ?Williamson ?Rascoe. They had 6 children, William West (6/28/?1830 - 9/1875), he married Louanna Susanna Harbert; this his the child who fathered my line of Bonds. Other children; John Nazareth (1825-1831),
James Bates(12/9/1840-11/7/1880) married Matilda Nelson, Mary Williamson (8/5/1835-1/20/1907) married Thomas J Harbett, Penelope Rascoe (5/31/1844-7/24/1919) married Calvin W Harbett, John Rascoe (5/4/1849-8/5/1934) married Virginia Venable Taylor.

Jmaes Bond's second marriage was to Mildred Tomasia Owen, from this union 10 children were born, Maragret, Mildred, Thomas, Helen, Lewis, Sallie, Claude, Ernest, Robert, and Walter.

James Bonds' first plantation was called "Carolina". It was situated close to the Hatchie River. This home burned shortly after the birth of his sixth child, and his first wife, Penelope died when this child was six weeks old.

At one time James owened approximately 35,400 acres, and also owned some 600 or more slaves. He also had his own dock and Steamboat for hauling cotton. At the time of his death James still owned approximately 27,269 acres. James Bond and Mildred Owen Bond lived on the outskirts of Brownsville, where he built another home on West Main street.

I notice in the excerpts from the book i mentioned previously Judge John Rascoe Bond and Virginia Taylor Bond, had a son named Humphrey Bate Bond. Please advise, is this who you are descendant from.

I am also interested in whatever information you can give me on your end of the Bond family. I know some of the history from the book on Brownsville, but not much from there. If you can obtain a copy of the book, it will be worth your effort. If you can not find the book, I can send you photocopies of the pages I found that pertained to my family. It details submitted biographies from descendants of many of the earlier residents in Brownsville.

I started my family research (maternal and fraternal) 17 years ago, and really would appreaciate any help/information you can give on our Bond roots.

I will continue to share information; for me to communicate with you and your mother is truely wonderful. My love of family, history and putting puzzles together, makes this project a labor of love. I don't want the family to forget who we are or where we came from.
