I have met John David Zumbrum's daughter Helen Olson and am recording her memories of life with her father and mother in "Peking". Her recollections as well as the images her father had taken (Camera Craft Studio on 16 Legation Street)comprise a fascinating tale of life in China from 1907-1929 when JDZ took down his shingle "Camera Craft", packed up his selected inventory into 3 specially constructed steamer trunks and set sale for America via Hawaii on the Kotu Maru. In many respects JDZ was an accomplished photo journalist shooting events as they unfolded around him in the heart of China. He was also considered an official photographer of the Imperial Court with many unique and unpublished images taken of "The Last Emperor" as an infant through his teen years. Index pages taken of one of his inventory books.
