Fines Addison “Zoogie” Zugelde

Fines Addison “Zoogie” Zugelder, passed away 2:45 p.m. Friday, April 28, 2006, in Kokomo. He was born Feb. 28, 1929, to the late Annie Story and William Edward Zugelder. He lived in Howard County most of his life.
A 30-year retiree from Haynes Stellite, Cabot Corp., Zoogie remained active in metallurgy his entire career. He married Dorothy Louise Daulton, his high school sweetheart, on Aug. 17, 1946. Zoogie was a 1947 Kokomo High School graduate, and later a graduate of Indiana University.
He was active in leadership roles in Scouting, church activities, and the Masonic Temple. An avid athlete, Zoogie played and later refereed basketball throughout the state. He was also signed to play professional baseball with the then Boston Braves.
The consummate storyteller, Zoogie loved people and never knew a stranger. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and will be sadly missed. We celebrate his freedom in heaven.
Zoogis is survived by his wife, Dorothy; a son Michael Zugelder and his wife, Ute Heidenreich, Norfolk, Va.; a daughter Julie Zugelder and her husband, Tom Mullins, Westfield; four grandsons; and sisters Anna Mae Baldwin, Catherine Smith, and Helen Schaewich. He was preceded in death by siblings Henry Zugelder, Margarite Pettay, Dorothy Pettey and Louise Baldwin.
A memorial celebration is 2 p.m. Saturday at Sunset Memory Garden Funeral Home. Friends may call at the funeral home two hours prior to the start of the memorial service.
