This has been the most frustrating of all my searches. The above is my grandmother. She was born in Manitoba, Canada in 1923, died in Chicago, Il 1963. Her parents and grandmother (paternal) immigrated to Canada from Poland, along with her siblings. Apparently, she was brought into the US under her father's visa. She married Roy S. LAUX (Unknown date/place, now deceased). Her father's name was John, but nobody knows her mother's name. She does not have a death cert. (I have a copy from Resurrection Cemetary of her plot number). There have been no naturalization papers or social security number. My mother states she was always afraid of being deported. She never worked for anybody but her father. I have not been able to find Mildred on any census forms, but she was not here very many years. Mildred went by the name of Tootsie.
I am trying to find out what her parents names were. Like I wrote, his name was John. However, it has been said that in order to assimilate into the US he changed his name from Zawdski to Zawada to Casey. He owned a hardware store/restaurant in Chicago, as well as the tenaments above. I did order a death certificate of a sister of Mildred's from Illinois, but was sent the wrong one. I have written two family members (I found them on the internet), but have not heard from either. There is a good chance that I won't hear from any.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I just don't know which direction to go. She did use all the last names at some points of her life.
