Dear Steve, sorry about all the nonsense on
this forum about the family of Joe Yule, Jr.,
a.k.a., "Mickey Rooney", but I just cannot
seem to understand about this seeming
fascination that some people have for Mickey's
I am Joe Edward Ewell, the son of Cline Fisk
Ewell, the son of Clinton Ewell, who was the
son of Franklin Ewell by Emma Rebecca Roberts,
Franklin's second wife. Franklin's first wife,
Ellen Erminda Buck, had five children, only
three of whom survived--one son and two
daughters. Ellen's and Franklin's only surviving
son was Fred Phelps Ewell, who changed his name
to Fred Dana Ewell when he was ten years old.
Fred Dana Ewell was born in Sardinia, N.Y. on
August 1, 1864. He married Margaret Cady on
February 16, 1886 at Chicago. Fred and Margaret
had the following children in the following
(1) Frances Ewell (f), born August 23, 1887
at Chicago; she married Elmer J. Sutcliffe.
(2) James Marvin Cady (m), born at Chicago on
May 28, 1889. He married Hazel Crowe of
Omaha, NB, in September 1913. James
Marvin Cady Ewell died April 20, 1963 in
(3) Joseph (Joe) Ewell (m), born in Scotland,
on April 30, 1894. As to his history from
this point on, you know the rest, atleast
in basic form.
(4) Doris Ewell (f) was born in Chicago on
July 22, 1895.
(5) Frederick Ewell, died in California in 1961.
I hope that this geneology is helful. I think
my 3rd cousin, Mickey Rooney, was and is a
great actor, and he even helped to get Frances
Groves started in shew business as "Judy Garland".
Personally speaking, the Wizard of Oz has
always been my favorite movie. Joe
