Worceser, MA, eh? How very interesting...

I don't really know all that much about my grandfather Yodice. His first name was Antonio and my grandmother was Giovanna. Each them was Ioduce. They were distant cousins, or so I have been told. They hail from Caserta, in the Campania region. I have no idea when he emigrated to Brooklyn NY, but he died in 1955. He died before I was born, so I never knew him. He did have two brothers, Nicole and Giovanni, who lived in North Bergen NJ. There was one sister, who stayed in Caserta. As for Grandma Iodice, she died in 1941, when she was 49. She had two sisters, Francesca and Teresina. They emigrated to Bridgeport, CT and married there. Her brother, Franco Iodice, went to Brooklyn and married. He died in 1973.

I doesn't seem to me that any of these people are related, but it fascinating to learn that the Iodice name is all over the map. You say that your grandfather changed his name by choice, but I suspect our name was changed by some Ellis Island official. I find it very frustrating to have this surname, because it not "Italian", as you know. There is no Y in Italian. Indeed, I have no initials in Italian.. there is no J for John nor Y for Yodice, ergo my initials are G.I.

Thanks for the response and I do hope that you will keep in touch.
