Oceanus Yancy, Sr. was born February 18, 1941 to Bertha and Reverend J.B. Yancy in Gates, Tennessee. O.C. was the seventh of nine children. He was preceded in death by his parents and three siblings.
O.C. received his education in the Gates and Halls, Tennessee public school systems. He accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age.
In 1959, he married the love of his life and his childhood sweetheart, Hattie Mae Jones and to this union, eight wonderful children were born. In June 2009 they renewed their vows for their 50th anniversary.
O.C. was a hard working family man. He was a loving husband, son, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his devoted wife, Hattie; He also leaves his loving children, Darlene (Terry) Lucas, David (Lela) Yancy, Sr., Oceanus Yancy, Jr., Debbie Yancy, Delphine Yancy, Nathan Yancy, Sr., Glen Yancy and Cynthia (Vasco) Yancy-Smith; twenty-two grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren; three brothers, E.M. (Lillie) Yancy, Sr., Thomas (Nell) Yancy, Sr., and Olympus (Dorothy) Yancy, Sr.; two sisters, Loraine Woolford and Allaine Pickett; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and numerous other relatives and friends are left to love and miss him.
